FBI has used images from state DMVs to create a database for facial recognition searches. Article in the WaPo today.

The conspiracy theorist in me always assumed this was happening to some degree, but it is alarming to see it laid out so plainly. All of the new restrictions on what you can wear in DL/ID photos makes sense now. California has what we call an AB60 license for those without the ability to present proof of residence (much like the VT, UT, WA equivalents mentioned) & it infuriates me that ICE has direct access to those photos/information to track people down & deport them. It’s just so disappointing that laws passed to try to protect immigrants end up backfiring with devastating consequences all too often.
