this is great @james3neal, thanks for sharing. I agreed with almost all of it though I need to push back on the whole “adtech vs real advertising bit”. While adtech is of course way more invasive, the whole idea that advertising hasn’t ALWAYS prioritized “content generation” over “real journalism” is just false. Tim Wu’s excellent book The Attention Merchants is a great resource on this.
