Senate hearing on consumer privacy this morning

#1

Google, AT&T, and others are gonna be questioned about their privacy policies: https://www.commerce.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/hearings?ID=2FF829A8-2172-44B8-BAF8-5E2062418F31

It’s starting now, or you can follow @dellcam’s tweets about it if you don’t feel like watching this likely kinda boring hearing lol.

I’ll be half-watching this until our lecture with Harlo Holmes later this morning!

I can’t find videos of these hearings but journos in the room said they were pretty wishy-washy.

Joseph Jerome wrote a good pre-game article on Slate. Jerome works for the Privacy & Data Project at the Center for Democracy & Technology, and it is filled with good links.

John Thune (R-S.D.) published this speech the day of. Caveats for cynicism, I was surprised hear a conservative Senator from South Dakota praising the GDPR.

Then I found this take–that it’s an end around for a federal law that will supercede the California data protections.
